Where to Travel in October If You Love Cozy Weather and Views

Travel Destinations for October

October works well for travel if you don’t like crowds or high prices. I usually take time off around then because the weather’s okay almost everywhere. Not hot, not freezing. It’s easier to find hotels, and most cities have that in-between pace — not dead, not hectic.

1. London, England

London England

When I went to London in October, it rained a lot but it didn’t ruin anything. You just get used to carrying an umbrella. Parks like Hyde Park and Regent’s Park still looked nice with all the leaves turning. I spent more time in cafés than outside. The museums were good for rainy days, and it was easy to get around on the Underground. I wore a light coat most of the trip and needed gloves once.

2. Copenhagen, Denmark

Copenhagen Denmark

Copenhagen was colder than I expected. I ended up buying a hat there. People really do light candles everywhere, and cafés stay busy all day. The pastries were great — cardamom buns and cinnamon rolls mostly. I rented a bike but didn’t last long on it because of the wind. It’s a walkable city, so that worked out fine.

3. Amsterdam, Netherlands

Amsterdam Netherlands

October was a quiet month in Amsterdam. A little fog, a little rain. Mostly around the canals, I preferred walking there over biking. There were late-night cafés and small shops in the Nine Streets area. Although the city didn't feel congested and hotel rates were lower, the weather wasn't great. For the simple reason that it was laid back, I would go again at that time.

4. Antwerp, Belgium

Antwerp Belgium

I took a quick trip from Amsterdam to this place. It's easier to walk and smaller. The weather was similar, chilly and grey but tolerable. When it started to rain, there were plenty of cafés and chocolate shops to hide in. The main station was impressive, I recall. It's good for a quick visit, but there isn't much to plan around other than food.

5. Seoul, South Korea

Seoul South Korea

October was probably the best time I could’ve picked for Seoul. The weather was crisp, not humid, and the skies were clear most days. The ginkgo trees turned yellow, and the city looked clean and bright. I walked a lot — palaces, parks, markets. Street food stalls sold spicy snacks that hit the spot when it got cooler in the evenings. Cafés were everywhere, and most stayed open late.

6. Kyoto, Japan

Kyoto Japan

I visited just before the height of the leaf season. It helped that it was quieter than November. The mornings were cool, but not cold enough for thick clothing. You could actually hear the water in the gardens, and the temples weren't overcrowded. I stayed at a traditional inn, which was simple but comfortable. There isn't much nightlife, but that's okay in Kyoto.

7. Paris, France

Paris France

October in Paris was less hectic than summer, but it was still busy. The majority of cafés had heaters or covered patios, and it rained intermittently. Rather than visiting major attractions, I spent the majority of my time strolling through neighbourhoods. Even though the light was usually drab, the city still had a pleasant appearance. Shoes that can withstand wet pavement should be brought.

8. Quebec City, Canada

Quebec City Canada

Without the lengthy flight, you can enjoy the autumn foliage and historic buildings. The leaves were at their peak when I visited in early October. In the mornings, the air was chilly, but it warmed up later. Due to its small size, the old town is easily explored in a single day. The hills are exhausting after a while, so I would advise staying close to the main square.

9. Edinburgh, Scotland

Edinburgh Scotland

Edinburgh in October was windy and gray. Bring waterproof shoes. The castle was open as usual, and pubs were the best option when the weather got bad. It’s not a sunshine trip, but the mood suits the city. The days are short, so plan outdoor stuff early.

10. New York City, USA

New York City USA

October in New York is comfortable. You can walk a lot without sweating. Central Park looks good, especially around mid-month. It’s also a good time for outdoor markets and just sitting outside with coffee. Still busy, though, so book things early.

11. Munich, Germany

Munich Germany

I went just after Oktoberfest ended. The city was quieter, but the beer halls were still open. Weather was cool, and it felt more like a regular city again. The parks looked nice, and prices dropped a bit. Easy trip if you like food and simple sightseeing.

Overall

October is a good travel month if you don’t need perfect weather. I pack a rain jacket, a few layers, and comfortable shoes. Crowds are smaller, flights are cheaper, and most places are easier to enjoy when you’re not elbowing through people. Wherever you go this month, the world will meet you with warmth—even if it’s wrapped in fog and falling leaves.
